LAS VEGAS–The Utah State University’s men’s basketball team will play Fresno State University tomorrow afternoon in Las Vegas. The Aggies come off their win against University of New Mexico which sealed their spot as the outright Mountain West Conference champions for the regular season.
A few accolades the teams has received since that game are as follows:
- Head coach Danny Sprinkle was named coach of the year for the Mountain West.
- Junior wing Great Osobor was named the Newcomer of the year.
- Josh Uduje was named co-sixth man of the year.
- Great Osobor and graduate guard Darius Brown II each earned first team all-MW accolades.
In a post-game press conference head coach Justin Hutson spoke about how he wants to show up to tomorrow’s game and the tournament itself.
“We have great respect for everybody in our conference and for it to be such a good conference, and for Sprinkle to win it in his first year says a lot,” Hutson said.
Both teams had this sentiment of respecting the gameplay of their opponents.
“They have our guy’s respect. Everybody in the whole league has all year,” head coach Danny Sprinkle said.
When asked about playing Fresno for the third time this season, coach Danny Sprinkle talked about how they must be ready for them to play the small game, especially when they play all five guards. He does note that Enoch Boakye, the 6 ’11” 250 pound center, is back to play for Fresno State.
“We have to make teams adjust to us,” Sprinkle said.
However, Sprinkle did note Isaiah Hill would be tough to play against.
“Hill’s a tremendous point guard. You know, he’s hurt us both times we played him,” Sprinkle said.
Sprinkle did not forget the fundamentals of basketball are how to beat Fresno State tomorrow.
“You got to make free throws, and you got to take care of the basketball,” Sprinkle said. “If we’re sharing the basketball, and continue to learn from tape, like, you know, I feel like we’ll play pretty well and hopefully have our best basketball this weekend.”
He knows, although the team is in the better position in this tournament, they must be ready for the game.
“We need to have a chip on our shoulder, and play with an edge tomorrow,” Sprinkle said.
Hutson, when asked about which players to look out for specifically in tomorrow’s game said,
“That whole team. The ones on the benches, the coaches, everybody.”
The Aggies play the Bulldogs tomorrow at noon Pacific Time.
