Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of the much-anticipated new generation Swift hatchback. Recent reports reveal that the car could be launched in India within next 2 months. This facelifted version of the popular hatchback comes with a number of changes both inside and out.
This face-lifted version of the Swift was first showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in 2023 and was later launched in Japan. There have been multiple sightings of the new car being tested in India. As per leaks, the production of 2024 Swift will start in coming weeks. The Indian iteration of the car is expected to look similar to the Japanese version with minor tweaks.
The exterior design of the upcoming Swift has been completely revised. The car now features a redesigned grille adorned with a honeycomb mesh pattern and revamped headlamps with new LED Daytime Running Lights. Complementing these changes are reworked front and rear bumpers, redesigned bonnet, updated fog lamp housings, and all new diamond alloy wheels.
Coming to the rear, not many changes can be seen. Updates at the rear include redesigned tailgate, bumper and taillights. The length of new Swift has increased by 30 mm while height and width have seen a reduction of 40mm and 30mm respectively.
One noticeable change is the relocation of the rear door handles. Earlier placed on the C-pillar, the handles are now back to the traditional position. Additionally, we can expect new color schemes, an integrated spoiler and a high mounted stop lamp, all adding to the sportiness of the car.
Inside the cabin, the new Swift has completely changed. The interior of the upcoming car will be much more premium and come with a host of new features. A floating 9 inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is the main highlight.
Other features include automatic climate control, semi-digital instrument cluster, dual-tone dashboard, steering mounted control and leather wrapped steering wheel. The car is expected to come with 6 airbags in the top model considering Maruti’s recent shift of focus on safety. While the global version of the car comes with a list of high end features, many of these may not be offered in the Indian version in order to keep costs low.
Under the hood, a new 1.2 liter three-cylinder Z series mild-hybrid petrol engine is set to replace the existing 1.2 liter K series mill, promising improved fuel economy and reduced emissions. Customers will have the choice between manual and automatic transmission options. The all-new Swift is expected to come with a strong hybrid system, similar to that of Grand Vitara. A 35 Kmpl mileage figure is being speculated for the new Swift. A CNG option is also in the pipeline.
However, this hybrid variant will come at additional cost with the price of top model likely to hit Rs. 12 lakhs. It will be interesting to see if Maruti launches the strong hybrid version of Swift in India. If launched, Swift will be the 1st car in its segment to feature a strong hybrid system, making it the most fuel efficient car.
