MG sales in Europe are up 105.8% year-on-year in February.

According to preliminary data from ACEA, the European market (EU+EFTA+UK) climbs up 10.2% per almost 100,000 sales year-on-year in February to 995,059 units. After two months, the cumulative volume is up 10.9% or nearly 200,000 units to 2,012,136. Among the Top 5 markets, the UK fares best at +14%, followed by France (+13%) and Italy (+12.8%). Spain (+9.9%) and Germany (+5.4%) are below the market growth. Other great performers include Bulgaria (+57.5%), Cyprus (+48.5%), Portugal (+27.4%), Ireland (+25.3%) and Malta (+22.5%). At the other end of the scale, Iceland (-57.5%), Latvia (+17.8%), Finland (-12.2%), Estonia (-9.8%) and Romania (-8.9%) skid.
Sales of BEVs match the market at +10.3% to 131,223 and 13.2% share, unchanged year-on-year. French BEV sales shoot up 31.8%, Spain is up 15.4%, UK up 21.8%, Italy up 3.1% but Germany is down -15.4%. Year-to-date BEVs are up 18.6% to 252,072 and 12.5% share vs. 11.7% a year ago, with France up 33.9%, UK up 21.3%, Spain up 14.9%, Germany down -1.3% and Italy off -2.7%. PHEV sales are up 12% to 72,376 for the month and up 17.9% year-to-date to 152,641, HEVs soar 24.2% to 287,394 and 23% year-to-date to 584,463, petrol is up 5.9% to 354,776 and up 4.5% YTD to 720,239 and diesel drops -5.1% to 119.428 and is off -5.5% YTD to 239,852.
In the groups ranking, the VW Group (+8.7%) trails the market slightly but remains ultra dominant at over 255,000 sales. It is followed by Stellantis (+11.2%) and Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi (+11.7%) both above the market growth. The Toyota Group (+14.4%) shines but remains below Hyundai-Kia (+2.3%) in difficulty. The BMW Group (+7%) is shy while Mercedes (-2.1%) and more dramatically Ford Motor (-16.7%) struggle.
Brand-wise, Volkswagen (-1.1%) endures the only year-on-year loss atop the charts, but stays #1 with a 26,000-unit advantage over the #2, Toyota (+12.3%). Peugeot (+8.3%) rallies back up three spots on January to #3 and now ranks #4 year-to-date vs. #8 over the Full Year 2023. Skoda (+14.4%) is very solid at #4 and is now #3 YTD vs. #7 over FY2023. BMW (+22.5%) drops two ranks to #5 and is followed by Renault (+6.2%), Mercedes (+1%) and Dacia (+3.3%) all weak. Audi (-7.4%) suffer below. Further down, Citroen (+26.1%), Volvo (+37.2%), Suzuki (+52.4%), Cupra (+42.9%) and MG (+105.8%) stand out.
Over in the models ranking, the Dacia Sandero (+12.8%) beats the market to repeat at #1 with a 1,000-unit margin over the #2, the Tesla Model Y (+7.1%) back up 19 spots on January but trailing the overall growth rate. The Model Y now ranks #7 year-to-date. The VW Golf (+45.5%) confirms its return to shape at #3 but #2 year-to-date. The Peugeot 208 (+14.2%) is up one rank on January at #4 as is the Citroen C3 (+60.9%) at #5. The C3 is boosted by rebates on the outgoing generation and rans #6 year-to-date vs. #18 over the Full Year 2023 and reaches its highest monthly position since February 2022 (#4). The Skoda Octavia (+34.9%), Renault Clio (+25.7%) and Peugeot 2008 (+17.2%) also outrun the market in the remainder of the Top 10.
