Is anyone worried about the security at Copa America 2024 matches this summer? If US-Mexico is any indication, we can expect some fans to get out of hand.
Last night, a melee broke out between USMNT and El Tri fans in BIG D, which may have even die-hard questioning their participation in this summer’s games.
The scene was brutal. The US fan wearing Stars and Stripes took on multiple Mexican fans, culminating in ice being thrown and a massive punch-down that saw him fly down a couple of rows. Watch it.

Here’s another US fan who received stitches in the head after taking multiple beverages or batteries to the head. Yeah, crazy.
And some bags of piss for the players themselves after Gio Reyna notched the two-nil lead.
However, the 30-second fistfight was part of a string of inappropriate fan behavior at AT&T Stadium. The game stopped three times due to homophobic chants from the crowd.

And to prove this doesn’t just happen in Concacaf matches, look no further than last January when Brazil faced Argentina at the Maracana in World Cup qualifying. The Brazilian police conducted the beating of Argentina fans.

It’s 87 days until Copa America 2024. How can Conmebol and Concacaf remind fans to leave the fight on the pitch? With all the money involved, in reality, probably very little. Better bring an umbrella.
