To many old-car enthusiasts, a vehicle that’s called “classic” is one that’s 25 (or more) years old. But the word has a very different definition for people who belong to the Classic Car Club of America.
This organization, which dates back to 1952 and hosts its own museum on the campus of the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan, celebrates the finest vintage automobiles ever built, regardless of country of origin. It offers guidelines to specify which vehicles fall under the term “Classic” (note the capital C): the cars are primarily prewar, having been built between the years of 1915 and 1948, and they embody top levels of design, engineering, and craftsmanship. The CCCA publishes a list of Approved Full Classics that meet these criteria.
Full Classics are the type of vintage automobiles that are regularly invited to exhibit in concours events and other discerning car shows; they may be the jewels of any collection. Those cars recognized by the CCCA tend to be very valuable, but there are good buys to be had if you’re willing to undertake a full restoration or even a sympathetic refurbishment. We’ve searched Hemmings.com and turned up a broad selection of domestic and imported Full Classics on offer from dealers and private sellers; scroll on to see 12 of our favorites.

1939 MG WA
