As promised, Warner Bros. has released the trailer for DC’s Joker: Folie à Deux and it gives us our first real look at what’s in store for this next chapter in Arthur Fleck’s crazed story. This looks like it’s going to be a wildly insane and great sequel!
Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as Arthur in the Todd Phillips-directed movie, and he is joined by Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, both of whom are going to give dark and phenomenal performances.
Warner Bros. is really hoping that this movie is going to be another big hit for them, but only time will tell how successful the sequel will end up being.
The first reactions that surfaced for the film were mostly positive. One review said: “The film is super bloody, chaotic, aggressive, surrealistic, but somehow true to its essence. Gaga and Joaquin are on the same level in performance.”
Another shared: “The musical aspect is not presented in a conventional way. They sing, of course, but it works in a different pattern. Very risky, but f*cking genius.” And that “Overall, the film seeks to balance itself to captivate both critics and the general public.”
Harley Quinn’s role is said to be “equal to Phoenix or even more central” to the story. It’s was also revealed that “Famous characters appear in it. Some changes to lore since these movies are standalone from certain other DC franchises.”
The Joker sequel will be a jukebox musical that will consist of 15 well-known songs, and its story will mostly be set in Arkham Asylum. The film’s title, Joker: Folie à Deux, refers to the clinical term for the “shared madness,” hallucinations, and delusions of two people.
The movie is said to be inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s infamous 1982 movie flop One from the Heart. Lawrence Sher praised director Phillips for going bold on the sequel, saying: “Something I appreciate about Todd Phillips — who I’ve done seven movies with, including Joker — is that he’s always taking risks. We’ve got the new Joker coming out next year and we’re just finishing up post-production on it. This movie is a big swing and it’s going to be really surprising to people. I’m so excited for everyone to see it.”
The movie also stars Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond, with Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Brendan Gleeson who will be playing undisclosed characters.
Joker: Folie á Deux is scheduled for release on October 4, 2024. Watch the trailer and tell us what you think!
