Horsepower can say a lot about a car and its intentions. On the upper end of the scale, that holds true regardless of form factor. In this race, we see a family sedan that looks kinda like a jelly bean take on a bruising muscle car with skinny front tires, a giant hood scoop, and only one seat. The results end up as one-sided as the Challenger’s drive tires.
That’s right, this race features the Dodge Demon 170, a vehicle that’s on the outer limits of good sense. It comes with a supercharged V8 that makes 1,025 horsepower on E85 fuel and in this case just a single seat. It’s taking on the Lucid Air Sapphire, a family sedan but a super one at that which makes 1,234 horsepower from its trio of electric motors.

On paper the two appear very similar despite their obvious differences in terms of everyday usefulness. On the track, the similarities disappear almost immediately. From a dig, the EV has no problem jumping out to a quick lead in race one. In fact, it’s so powerful that it leverages that lead all the way to the end with a commanding 9.019-second pass at 153 mph (246 km/h). The Dodge manages just a 9.494 at 144 mph (231 km/h).
Neither car went as fast as their respective automakers say they can go so perhaps they’ll do better in a second round. From the moment the green light flashes it’s clear that this race will be a touch different. Specifically, the Lucid doesn’t get the launch which enables the Demon 170 to get ahead.
That initial victory was short-lived though. The Lucid actually launched more than a third of a second later but it’s simply too powerful for the Dodge to handle. It walks around the two-door muscle car and onto a second victory. Indeed, this time it’s even quicker with a total ET of 9.006 at 152 mph (244 km/h). The Demon 170 clocks a slower 9.670 at 142 mph (228 km/h). We’ve officially reached the era of push-button drag racing kings.
