The all-new Opel Frontera made its first public outing in Istanbul, Turkey, replacing the aging Crossland with a larger body and modern Stellantis underpinnings. The SUV twin of the Citroen C3 Aircross comes in mild-hybrid and fully electric forms, with prices starting from around €24,000 ($25,900) in Germany. Opel also announced it will offer the Frontera with a seven-seater layout, alongside the standard five-seater version.
The digital premiere of the Opel Frontera took place last month, revealing the exterior and interior design of the new model. This time, Opel showed the Frontera in the flesh, offering more details about the powertrain options, trim structure, and starting prices.

The Frontera is the first production model to wear the new Opel Blitz emblem on the vizor fascia which is flanked by modern LEDs. The front and rear ends incorporate Opel’s latest styling language, but the proportions and greenhouse are shared with the Citroen C3 Aircross twin.
The company decided to offer a simplified trim structure with two levels – the entry-level Frontera and the flagship Frontera GS – that can be combined with two optional packages.
Inside, the Frontera GS features a digital cockpit with dual 10-inch displays housed in the same panel. All versions come with a standard “smartphone station” and plenty of practical features highlighting the SUV’s family-oriented character.
In five-seater configuration, the boot has a capacity of more than 450 lt (15.9 cubic feet), growing up to 1,600 lt (56.5 cubic feet) when you fold the seats. Opel confirmed it will also offer the Frontera with a three-row seven-seater layout in the near future, catering the needs of larger families. Finally, the optional roof rails can hold a maximum weight of 240 kg (529 pounds), including a roof tent with an integrated ladder which have been specifically-designed for the SUV.
Two Mild-Hybrid and Two EV Options
The Opel Frontera Hybrid features the widely used turbocharged 1.2-liter gasoline engine, assisted by a 48V mild-hybrid system. The ICE produces 99 hp (74 kW / 100 PS), with an extra 28 hp (21kW / 28PS) from a single electric motor integrated within the six-speed dual-clutch automatic. Power is exclusively transmitted to the front wheels. There will also be a more powerful version of the Frontera Hybrid fitted with the 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) version of the 1.2-liter engine and an identical mild-hybrid setup.
The automaker didn’t reveal the specifications of the Opel Frontera Electric, but promised a WLTP range of more than 300 km (186 miles) in standard form, and around 400 km (249 miles) in a long-range version.
The flagship EV trim could use the 154 hp (156 PS / 115 kW) e-motor and 54 kWh battery configuration found in the majority of Stellantis EVs, with a simpler setup reserved for the entry-level model. Note that the Citroen e-C3 supermini which rides on the same budget-friendly Smart Car architecture is offered with a less potent 111 hp (83 kW / 113 PS) e-motor and a smaller 44 kWh battery pack.
In Germany, the Frontera Hybrid will start from around €24,000 ($25,900), with the Frontera Electric priced from around €29,000 ($31,282). This makes it the most affordable electric SUV of its size, and significantly cheaper than the smaller Mokka Electric which starts from €40,800 in the same market.
