Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of its all-new electric version of the XUV700. This new model will be called the XUV.e8, and recently, more details about this electric SUV have emerged. This information comes from the recently patented interior design of this SUV. These patents confirm that the XUV.e8 will feature a three-screen setup and a two-spoke steering wheel. The XUV.e8 is scheduled to make its official debut in December 2024.
According to reports by Autocar India, the new patents have revealed that the XUV.e8’s interior will boast three individual screens. They will be housed in a single casing that spans the entire width of the dashboard. These screens will include a digital driver’s display, a central infotainment screen, and an additional passenger screen.
All of these three screens will be running on Mahindra’s Adrenox software. Currently, the XUV700 comes equipped with two 10.25-inch connected screens. The new patents have also revealed that the XUV.e8 will sport a new two-spoke, flat-bottomed steering wheel.
From the patent images, it can be noted that the steering wheel will have a glass-like finish. It looks very similar to the one featured in the new Tata Nexon. It will also get an illuminated logo, like the ones we have already seen in other Tata SUVs like the Harrier and Safari. The steering wheel also includes four toggle switches.
Mahindra XUV.e8: Details
The XUV.e8 is set to become the first Mahindra SUV built on the brand’s Born-Electric (BE) INGLO platform. As for the outside, its pre-production prototypes have indicated that while it shares its exterior design with the already popular XUV700.
The upcoming electric SUV will carry over several exterior panels from the XUV700. These will include the bonnet, doors, and roofline. However, it will distinguish itself with a unique fascia featuring a full-width LED light bar that integrates into the bumper.
Other details include the replacement of the traditional front grille with a sealed-off grille typical of electric vehicles. Additionally, there will be triangular headlamp housings. The headlights will feature a new vertically stacked LED design.
Mahindra XUV.e8 Dimensions
In terms of dimensions, the XUV.e8 will be slightly larger than the XUV700. It will measure 4,740 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,760 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,762 mm. These dimensions make the XUV.e8 45 mm longer, 10 mm wider, and 5 mm taller than the XUV700. It will also boast an extended wheelbase by 7 mm.
Mahindra XUV.e8: Powertrain and Competition
The XUV.e8 is expected to come powered by an 80 kWh battery pack. Reports have stated that it could also get an all-wheel-drive system with a dual-motor setup. This configuration will deliver power outputs ranging from 230 bhp to over 350 bhp. As for range, it is expected to be around 450-500 km.
The Mahindra XUV.e8 is scheduled to make its debut before the end of the year. Once launched, it will be competing with the Tata Harrier EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and Maruti Suzuki eVX along with the Toyota eVX-based SUV. As for the pricing, it will be priced around Rs 30-35 lakh.
