The Porsche Club of America (PCA) just released a full-length, nearly hour-long documentary that delves into the history of how the Porsche brand went from a class win during its first Le Mans race in 1951 to beating out all competitors and winning overall during the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The video, titled Giant Killer to Giant: How Porsche went from class win to winning overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, was uploaded to the PCA’s YouTube channel on October 3. The high-quality film features many historic images and video clips teamed with facts from experts in their fields. Viewers say it’s the best video the PCA has released to date.
The new video was released just in time to celebrate the company’s 75th anniversary. In its entire history thus far, Porsche has won overall 19 times at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the ultimate sports car endurance race. The film features Rod Emory of Emory Motorsports, who talks about the 356 SL, the sports car that gave Porsche its first class win.
Then we hear about the story of Porsche’s racing through 1967 from Cam Ingram of Road Scholars. Then, Revs Institute founder Miles Collier and legendary Porsche Factory Driver Brian Redman dive into the details of Porsche’s golden era of prototype racing in the 1970s.
