- Maserati announced two new special editions of the MC20 supercar, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the exotic MC12.
- The MC20 Icona is inspired by the roadgoing MC12 Stradale, while the MC20 Leggenda mirrors the livery of the MC12 GT1 Vitaphone racecar.
- Each model will be offered in 20 units, for an undisclosed price.
Maserati is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the MC12 by unveiling two special editions of the MC20 – the Icona and the Leggenda. The models feature distinct liveries created by the Maserati Fuoriserie program and will be produced in a limited number of 20 units each.
The Maserati MC20 Icona features a blue and white exterior that mirrors the colors of the original MC12 Stradale. The upper portion of the bodywork is painted in Icona Bianco Audace Matte, contrasting the Blu Stradale stripes on the lower section.
The Trident-inspired wheels are chrome-plated, and the brake calipers are finished in blue. Maserati also added an Italian flag right under the MC20 lettering on the profile, a carbon fiber engine cover, and auto-dimming mirrors.

Next is the Maserati MC20 Leggenda, paying homage to the MC12 GT1 racecar from the Vitaphone Racing team. The latter is important for the brand as it scored three victories and two second places in the 24 Hours of Spa (out of the 27 total victories of the MC12 in the FIA GT Championships).
The modern reinterpretation combines Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte shades with striking yellow accents. The wheels combine two different shades of black (Nero Lucido and Nero Opaco) with touches of Digital Mint and black brake calipers.

The interior of the special editions also benefits from the Fuoriserie treatment. Equipment is generous, including monocoque racing seats, a Sonus Faber audio system, more ADAS, a nose lift function, and the carbon fiber package. The Icona has Nero/Blu upholstery, while the Leggenda has a darker Nero configuration. Each series has its name embroidered on the headrests, and a special badge on the engine cover.
Maserati didn’t announce any performance upgrades for the Icona and Leggenda models over the standard MC20, meaning the differences are purely cosmetic. We also don’t know the pricing for the limited production specials, and how many of them have already been spoken for.
Same Brand, Different Characters
Despite the obvious differences in character and market positioning, the 2004 Maserati MC12 has always been portrayed as an inspiration for the 2020 Maserati MC20.
Similarities between the two supercars include a mid-engined layout, a carbon fiber tub, and an identical power output of 621 hp (463 kW / 630 PS). However, the MC20 delivers those from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine, as opposed to the MC12’s Ferrari-sourced naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12.
Besides the more exotic looks penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the MC12 was also a lot more exclusive than the MC20, with the road-going Stradale version being limited to 50 units.
