Wheelchair Basketball Athletes Beijer and Won Nominated for IPC Athletes’ Council Election at Paris 2024 Paralympics

A competitive field of 26 candidates has been nominated for the election to fill six summer representative roles on the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletes‘ Council during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Notably, wheelchair basketball athletes Mariska Beijer from the Netherlands and Yoomin Won from Korea are among the candidates, representing wheelchair basketball and advocating for athlete interests within the Paralympic Movement.

Mariska Beijer, a formidable player for the Dutch national team, has been an integral part of her team’s success on the international stage. Her experience and dedication to wheelchair basketball make her a strong candidate for the IPC Athletes’ Council. Yoomin Won, representing South Korea, is another accomplished wheelchair basketball athlete. His nomination brings attention to the growing popularity and competitive spirit of wheelchair basketball in Asia.

Voting for the IPC Athletes’ Council will take place from August 26 to September 5, 2024, at designated venues within the Paralympic Village and Chateauroux Village, where athletes competing in Shooting Para sport are accommodated.

The announcement of the six newly elected council members will be made during the Closing Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on September 8. They will join existing council members to collectively shape policies that impact Paralympic sport globally.

To ensure fairness and compliance with the IPC Code of Ethics and Campaign Rules, an IPC Electoral Commission has been appointed to oversee the election process. Accredited athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are encouraged to exercise their voting rights, contributing to diverse representation across sports and regions.
