The film premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival, then played at NYFF and this year’s Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride. In this doc film, a Nepali mountaineer risks everything on a record-breaking Everest climb to secure a brighter future for her daughters. It tells the story of a tenacious woman named Lhakpa Sherpa. Technically, she is not the first Nepalese woman to climb Everest – that honor goes to Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, however she died during her descent. Lhakpa is the first Nepalese woman to summit and descend – and she has since devoted her life to empowering girls. Now a single mother working at a Whole Foods in Connecticut, she embarks on a dramatic return to the mountain, determined to redeem her life’s purpose & inspire her own daughters.
