The Audi Q3 is the most popular vehicle in Switzerland in July.
Swiss new car sales drop -0.9% year-on-year in July to 18,430 units, leading to a year-to-date volume off -1.9% to 139,648. 4×4 registrations are down -3.2% to 9,210 and 50% share vs. 51.1% in June 2023 and up 1.1% year-to-date to 72,597 and 52% share vs. 50.5% over the same period in 2023. Petrol sales sink -16.6% to 5,252 and 28.5% share vs. 33.9% a year ago and are down -13.4% YTD to 43,652 and 31.3% share vs. 35.4%. Diesel edges down -5.2% to 1,877 for the month and is even up 1.8% year-to-date to 14,098. HEVs soar 29.2% to 6,313 and 34.3% share vs. 26.3% and are up 15.% YTD to 44,879 and 32.1% share vs. 27.3%. PHEVs skid -12.6% to 1,553 for the month and -1.8% year-to-date to 12,138, finally BEVs edge down -5.9% in June to 3,434 and 18.6% share vs. 19.6% and off -7.4% YTD to 24,821 and 17.8% share vs. 18.8% over the first seven months of 2023.
Over in the brands ranking, Volkswagen (-17.8%) maintains itself in the lead with 10.9% share despite a sizeable year-on-year loss. Mercedes (+27.1%) surges to 2nd place ahead of Audi (+3%) and BMW (+5.2%). Skoda (-12.8%) is down one spot on June to #5 while Toyota (-13%) is up one to #6. Renault (+17.8%), Volvo (+16.3%) and Hyundai (+10.4%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10. Dacia (+41.6%) scores the largest gain in the Top 20 at #11. Chinese newcomer MG surges 22 ranks to #29 while we welcome Voyah (#41), BYD (#42) and Dongfeng (#50) in the charts.
Model-wise, the Audi Q3 (-2%) signs its first win since April 2023 but still ranks #6 year-to-date. It distances the VW Tiguan (-7.3%) and Mercedes GLC (+9.3%). The latter two advance to #3 and #4 respectively year-to-date. The Skoda Octavia (-29.9% freefalls at #4 while the VW Polo (-11.5%), in difficulty, rounds out the Top 5. The Volvo EX30 is back up 8 spots on June to #6 and the Skoda Karoq (+33.8%), BMW X1 (+24.2%) and Skoda Kodiaq (+14.5%) shine below. Still #1 year-to-date, the Tesla Model Y (-11.7%) falls to #10 this month.
