Day 4 of the wheelchair basketball competition at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games was filled with thrilling matchups as teams battled for quarter-final placings. Both the USA men’s team and China’s women’s team remained undefeated, while other teams fought hard to secure their positions.
Australia vs. USA (Men)
The day kicked off with a high-octane clash between Australia and the USA. The USA emerged victorious, winning 76-69 in a game filled with three-point fireworks. Jake Williams led the USA with 24 points, 14 of which came from beyond the arc in just 20 minutes of playing time. Australia, led by Tom O’Neill Thorne’s 14 points, kept the pressure on but couldn’t close the gap. The USA’s win solidifies their place at the top of Pool B, leaving Australia winless and bottom after three games.

Japan vs. Germany (Women)
Germany triumphed over Japan in a hard-fought game, winning 67-55. After a low-scoring first half, Japan mounted a comeback in the third quarter, led by Chihiro Kitada’s 22 points. However, Germany’s captain, Mareike Miller, was unstoppable, finishing with 39 points and 18 rebounds to secure the win for her team.
Great Britain vs. China (Women)
China continued their unbeaten run with a convincing 62-47 victory over Great Britain. China’s precision shooting and strong ball movement were key, as they shot 67% in the first quarter and built a significant lead by halftime. Great Britain’s shooting struggles persisted, and despite strong efforts from Robyn Love and Lucy Robinson, China secured the top spot in Pool A.

Netherlands vs. Spain (Men)
Spain secured second place in Pool B with a 68-53 victory over the Netherlands. Despite the Netherlands’ strong start, Spain took control in the second half, dominating the fourth quarter. Mattias Bellers was the standout for the Netherlands with 22 points and 11 rebounds, but Spain’s balanced attack, led by Ignacio Ortega’s 19 points, proved too strong.
Spain vs. Canada (Women)
Canada finished second in Pool A with a commanding 81-49 win over Spain. Kady Dandneau delivered a standout performance with 36 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists. Canada’s aggressive defense and full-court press forced numerous turnovers, and they capitalized on Spain’s foul troubles to extend their lead throughout the game.
With just one day left in the group stages, the quarterfinal matchups are starting to take shape. The competition at the Bercy Arena is heating up as teams vie for a spot in the knockout rounds.
