Chinese carmaker Jetour has launched the Dashing and X70 Plus SUVs in South Africa, bringing its five- and seven-seater models to the market. In Malaysia, these models have been previewed in May this year, and the duo is set to enter the Malaysian market later this year.
“We have been focusing on the South African market for a long time. By the end of this year, we will establish 40 sales networks and aim for [sales of 2,000 units], with a cumulative sales goal of 20,000 units over the next three years,” said Jetour Auto vice president Ke Chuandeng.
In South Africa, the Dashing is offered in two variants; the Momentum is priced at 439,900 rand (RM106,332), while the Deluxe is priced at 469,900 rand (RM113,583). Meanwhile, the X70 Plus D-segment seven-seater is also offered in two variants – the 1.5T Momentum, which is priced at 454,900 rand (RM109,939), and the 1.5T Deluxe, which is priced at 484,900 rand (RM117,190).
In Malaysia, both the Jetour Dashing and the X70 Plus will also be offered in two variants, namely the Prime and the Signature. Both the Dashing and X70 Plus are powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine, rated to produce 156 PS at 5,500 rpm and 230 Nm of torque from 1,750 rpm to 4,000 rpm.
Both also share transmission hardware, with the driven wheels being those at the front, through a six-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox. In terms of exterior dimensions, the Dashing measures 4,590 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, 1,685 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, while the X70 Plus is 4,724 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,720 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm.
In terms of equipment, the Prime variant of the Dashing that has been previewed for Malaysia packs LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED taillights, a powered tailgate, keyless entry and start, remote engine start, leather seat upholstery, a six-way powered driver’s seat, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a 50W wireless charging pad, four speakers and automatic air-conditioning with rear vents and CN95 filter.
Safety and assistance kit on the five-seater is comprised of passive cruise control, a reverse camera, ABS, EBD, brake assist, ESC, traction control, six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX child seat anchors, overspeed warning and four reverse sensors.
Stepping up to the Signature brings a panoramic sunroof, a four-way powered front passenger seat, ambient lighting, lane change assist, blind spot monitoring, lane change warning, rear cross traffic alert and a 360-degree around view monitor.
For the X70 Plus, base line equipment starting with the Prime brings automatic LED headlights, red exterior highlights, roof rails and 19-inch two-tone alloy wheels. Safety kit for the D-segment seven-seater includes four airbags and autonomous emergency braking on the Prime, while the Signature adds curtain airbags for six in total, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, rear cross traffic alert and a door opening warning.
Interior kit is comprised of twin 10.25-inch displays, plus a slimmer separate screen for the air conditioning. As standard, you get keyless entry, push-button start, paddle shifters, cruise control, a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather upholstery, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50-watt Qi wireless charger, four speakers, a 360-degree camera system and a powered tailgate.
The Signature variant of the X70 Plus adds a panoramic glass sunroof, driver’s side seat memory and metal pedals. Given that the Chinese D-segment SUV shares its name with a popular, national SUV, A Jetour representative has previously disclosed that the X70 Plus will likely be renamed for the Malaysian market.
Currently, Malaysian pricing for both the Dashing and X70 Plus have yet to be revealed, not even estimated figures. As mentioned, the Chinese SUV duo is scheduled to be officially go on sale in Malaysia later this year, and both will be locally assembled (CKD) models.
