A promising new talent from the Brooklyn Nets will unfortunately miss plenty of time due to a brutal injury.
As announced by the team on Friday, the Nets won’t see the action of Maxwell Lewis due to a fractured left tibia. His recovery will be updated in the next four weeks.
A devastating injury
Lewis, who was acquired by the Nets from the Los Angeles Lakers alongside D’Angelo Russell, sustained the injury in his debut for Brooklyn last Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors.
As he checked in to the game at the garbage time of the Nets’ 130-113 loss, Lewis proceeded to drain a trey. But in the subsequent defensive possession, he got tripped by center Jakob Poeltl upon backpedaling to play defense.
The second-year forward had to be carried off the court and didn’t ultimately return to the hardwood.
“The toughest part of today is seeing one of your guys going down. We’re all, thinking about the kid, Max,” head coach Jordi Fernandez said of Lewis’s injury following the game. “We don’t know the extent of the injury. Obviously, we’ll MRI, but all our group was thinking about him, and we’re sending all positive energy.”
Still set to show out his talent
On the cusp of finally obtaining that needed exposure after his scarce play time during his run in Los Angeles, Lewis couldn’t endure a much even devastating setback due to this injury.
Yet thankfully enough, he is expected to still be back in action sooner. Per HoopsHype’s Mike Scotto, Lewis’s tibia injury won’t shut him down for the remainder of the season.
Lewis, 22, was drafted by the Lakers for the 40th overall pick of the 2023 NBA Draft. As the Nets head towards rebuilding phase, he has a golden opportunity to play out and develop to become a part of the team’s future plans.
