A huge misconception about LeBron James’ latest scoring record gets debunked with one graphic.
LeBron James has been playing in the NBA for more than two decades and each season, the King adds new feats to his record book.
After recently turning 40 years old, James broke a major scoring record set by none other than Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan.
In the Lakers’ recent 119-102 win over the Atlanta Hawks, LBJ became the all-time leader in most 30-point games by a single player.
LeBron James took extra games, but not at the cost of chucking shots
When fans talk about James’ game, they think of him as an all-around player. On the other hand, Jordan was always viewed as a scorer.
Moreover, due to James’ insane longevity, a plethora of fans called out the King for taking more than 450 games to surpass Jordan’s scoring record. Well, there is one major detail that the fans missed out on.
As the graphic shows, James has 563 30-point games to MJ’s 562, but he trails Mike in field goals attempted. James has 197 fewer games with 25+ FGA and 32 fewer games with 30+ FGA than Jordan.
He also attempted more than 35 shots in just four games, while Jordan had 31 such games in his career.
As a result, many fans overlooked MJ taking a huge number of shots due to his astronomical numbers.
It still doesn’t take away from what the Bulls legend did during his NBA career, but had James taken the same number of shots as him, he would have long surpassed MJ’s 30-point game record.
LA Lakers star trolled James
Regardless of the above-explained graphic, many will still poke fun at the Los Angeles Lakers superstar for taking so many games to surpass Jordan’s record.
In fact, Anthony Davis jokingly mocked James for taking seven more seasons to surpass His Airness’ scoring record.
“It bothers me but it took him seven more seasons.”
AD still praised the King for the impressive accomplishment and loves the fact that his teammate is No. 1 in almost all major all-time categories.
