The Los Angeles Lakers paid for a bad start against the Houston Rockets and were not able to recover.
The LA Lakers‘ road troubles continued with a 119-115 loss to the Houston Rockets. And the end result was a lot closer than appeared likely after the first quarter.
The Rockets raced into a 36-22 lead, with the Lakers’ starters found wanting, and Houston led 67-49 at the break.
The Lakers came out hot in the third and made a game of it, and part of this was down to Dorian Finney-Smith‘s impact.
LA Lakers fans praise Dorian Finney-Smith
Part of the reason for the improved showing from the LA Lakers in the second half was Dorian Finney-Smith coming off the bench.
Finney-Smith scored 13 points, putting in his best output since being traded to the Lakers from the Brooklyn Nets.
Now the Lakers fans want to see Finney-Smith brought into the starting line-up, as he continues to grow in confidence.
One fan wrote on X: “Start Dorian Finney-Smith,” and another added: “I’ll say what we are all thinking, Dorian Finney Smith should be starting over Max.”
A third wrote: “He might need to start. Rui has had a great year but Finney Smith does EVERYTHING.”
This comment was echoed by another fan who argued: “Dorian Finney Smith never misses a rotation man he’s so much better than Rui.”
Another fan made their feelings clear: “Finney-Smith better be in the starting lineup next game. It is clear as day that he is the better option with the starting guys. He makes such a difference defensively and with his effort/motor. Redick make that change please.”
Finney-Smith’s performance generated more goodwill, with one supporter writing; “Dorian Finney-Smith’s value grows every single game, full-time starter soon,” while another added: “Finney-Smith is a difference maker for the Lakers!!!!”.
Finney-Smith loving life on the Lakers
Dorian Finney-Smith made clear early on that he was thrilled to be on the LA Lakers, where he has linked up with former teammate JJ Redick.
Redick spoke in advance of the deal how much he admires the former Dallas Mavericks star, and it all lined up when the Lakers pulled off the trade.
There is a good chance Finney-Smith does get moved into the starting line-up soon, Redick has shown a willingness to mix up his selections.
The Lakers are 20-15 for the season, missing the chance to close the gap in the Western Conference on the Houston Rockets, who move to 23-12.
