Masugu and Yui aren’t the only two employees with a secret. Yui learns that Morizono is an expert on sweets as she has a well-established social media presence in that arena. It’s also a place where Morizono can go Full Girly, which is why she gives Yui the advice she needs on a test product with the understanding that Yui won’t spread word of Morizono’s hobby.
While they try not to interact at work too much lest they blow their cover, Masugu and Yui are nevertheless watching one another, not just out of mutual affection, but pride and inspiration. Yui knows Masugu’s shoulders hurt because she knows he was lifting heavy boxes to help out, so she gives him a shoulder massage after work. I’ll also mention that seeing them wash and dry dishes together is just sickeningly adorable.
When Masugu gets chewed out by the assistant director for adding two too many columns to a report, he’s suddenly in a bad mood, and sulks while sipping a boxed coffee. Then Yui goes around offering samples of her new and improved sweet, including him, and asks for his advice. She checks him when he half-asses his feedback, so he gives her something she can use. Moved by how hard she’s working, Masugu bucks up, ends the pity party, and gets back to work.
The couple end up together with their co-workers in a public setting when their respective departments end up at the same izakaya. While he tries to avoid lengthy eye contact with his girlfriend, her co-workers heap praise upon her as the one everyone depends on. Meanwhile, Yui deals with the stress of being so close and yet so far from her fella that she drinks her beer faster than usual.
When she wanders off looking a little wobbly, Masugu follows her, and ends up rubbing her back and cooling her face with his hands. The two use each others’ first names while talking, and end up getting caught by the quiet and relatively new Somei, who immediately pegs them as a secret couple.
However, Somei is a good guy, assuring Masugu that he won’t be spreading any rumors. Besides that simply not being his thing, he owes his smooth transition to the office to Yui. She was kind to him, so he’ll be kind to them. Secret? isn’t going to win any awards for its production values—visually it really just barely holds together—but I don’t care when the characters are this decent, fun, and endearing.
