Jimmy Butler is nearing the end of his Miami Heat suspension but it appears the star might be about to be handed a new punishment.
Butler was slapped with an initial seven-game suspension for several instances of ‘conduct detrimental to the team’ throughout this season.
The 35-year-old NBA veteran is still looking to force a move from the Heat and will reportedly go above Pat Riley’s head to force the exit.
While Butler is officially set to be eligible to play against the Denver Nuggets in the Heat’s next game it looks as if he could be dealt another blow.
Butler faces further punishment
The trade news around Butler has been the hottest topic in the NBA for some time now and the Indiana Pacers became the latest team to debate a trade.
While there has been some interest in Butler no firm offers have yet been made and Lou Williams believes that he will be back in a Heat jersey.
Heat star Tyler Herro recently highlighted how Bam Adebayo had stepped up to lead the team in Butler’s absence, something which looks likely to continue given Butler’s impending potential punishment.
Senior NBA insider Chris Haynes has been told by sources that the Heat is considering changing the designation of Butler’s suspension to a stiffer, more expensive penalty.
Speaking about the news Haynes said: “The Heat may change the designation of Butler’s suspension from ‘conduct detrimental to the team’ to ‘refusing to provide services.’”
Haynes spoke about the impact this change could have on Butler going forward, he said: “Such a change would double the fine tally for Jimmy.
“I’m told the designation is the same as of right now but it is fluid and this just speaks to how this relationship between Miami and Jimmy has fractured in a short period of time.”
Stephen A. Smith ‘hates’ Butler situation
Journalist and broadcaster Stephen A. Smith has stated previously how the Heat must do ‘everything they can’ to secure the services of Butler.
It appears that Heat teammates are coping just fine without Butler though, and he will need to fix more than his relationship with Pat Riley before he returns
Stephen A. revealed how he is ‘hating’ the situation that is going on between Butler and the Heat.
Speaking on ESPN he said: “I hate it, I really really do as I’ve known Jimmy Butler for years and I wish him nothing but the best.
“I look at it from a standpoint that I wish it could end amicably but unfortunately when somebody walks into your office and tells you to your face that they wanted to be traded like Jimmy Butler did recently with Pat Riley that’s got to sting.”
All eyes will be on the Heat’s game against the Nuggets, a Butler return would certainly leave many shocked.
