Getting used to trade talk is just part of being a NBA player, even if the superstars don’t like it.
Cleveland Cavaliers star Darius Garland expressed that he was shocked after hearing trade rumors surrounding the team after a loss, and it’s something many NBA stars are simply used to.
Win or lose, rumors have surrounded the Miami Heat all season, specifically around Jimmy Butler.
Butler wants to be traded, and was recently suspended by the team, before making his return at the end of last week.
Miami Heat playing through distractions
Learning to shut out the noise is part of being a NBA star. It’s not just trade rumors, there are comments from former players, from fans on social media, which can all prove distracting to players.
Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo has emerged as the team’s go-to leader, and ahead of the team’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, spoke to the media.
Adebayo was asked if he had a message for the Heat’s younger stars about the recent distractions, alluding to the Butler situation.
He responded: “They handle it as professional as they should. I really emphasize to the young guys to really be professional in this league.
“Like I said before, we still have to play games. We have to lock in and that’s what I’ve been honing in, locking into the games, and so we don’t have to necessarily have to deal with more outside noise than we already have.”
Heat re-adjusting with Butler, for now
During Butler’s seven-game suspension, there were claims Heat players appreciated the lack of chaos the player’s current situation brings.
Butler is at odds with Heat supremo Pat Riley, and has met with team owner Micky Arison to try and get trade talks moving.
After making his return to the Heat last week, the players are re-adjusting. They did so very well in the game against the Spurs, with Adebayo and rookie Kel’el Ware combining for devastating effect.
Butler’s performance drew criticism from fans, scoring only eight points.
The Heat star has insisted he would ‘hoop’ if still on the Heat after the trade deadline. Until then, everybody seems to be stuck in limbo, and Adebayo’s advice to the young stars could be very useful.
