Hahari has the strongest maternal instinct of Rentarou’s girlfriends, which tracks: she’s actually a mother to Hakari. She scratches that itch by making baby clothes for everyone, while Kusuri cooks up a babyfication potion that turns everyone but Rentarou and Hakari into infants. The two soon learn that taking care of one child is a formidable job, let alone six!
When it’s safe to turn everyone back to their normal age, Hakari apologizes for snapping at her mother earlier for getting to excited about treating everyone like babies. At first Hakari felt embarrassed that her prim, proper mother was acting so shamelessly. After caring for everyone as babies, she realizes how caring for her claimed some of her mom’s youthful, carefree days, which she can now reclaim as part of the Rentarou Family.
The remainder of this episode focuses on Meido Mei, the Hanazonos’ loyalist maid, who has seemingly forgotten how to open her eyes. The gang tries everything in order to open them up, but nothing works…until Rentarou gets her to laugh at his jokes. When he tells her he actually heard the jokes from Hahari, those eyes open right up, as a maid should never laugh at her mistress
And what eyes! They really are rainbow. Also, the moment they open, Rentarou is right there, and so Mei falls instantly in love with him. While she initially vows to stifle that love for her mistress’ sake, Hahari insists she not lie to herself and let her true feelings out. Mei does, asks Rentarou out, and becomes the eighth member of the polycule. As for when she’ll flash those rainbow eyes again … who can say?
