Former UConn star and Charlotte Hornets guard James Bouknight will undergo arthroscopic surgery to address a meniscus issue in his left knee on Wednesday, the Hornets announced. He will be re-evaluated in four weeks, and there is no immediate timetable for his return.
The third-year guard suffered the injury in a training camp practice on Oct. 5, the team said. He last played for the Hornets in Summer League and was ruled out ahead of the team’s preseason opener on Tuesday in Miami.
Bouknight was chosen with the 11th overall pick in the 2021 draft by the Hornets after averaging 15 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in two seasons at UConn. He’s appeared in 65 games over two seasons in Charlotte, averaging 5.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1 assist in 12.6 minutes per game.
The 23-year-old has split time between the Hornets and their G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm.
