If you’ve got a good hand, you should go all in. Sure, you’re taking a risk. If you don’t take risks, you won’t get ahead. That’s as true for NBA teams as it is for anyone else.
Think about it. If you’ve got two superstars on your team, why not add a third? Why are you hanging onto assets? Isn’t the idea to use those assets to build a contender? If you’re this close, you might as well get closer. Send those picks to a team that needs them. That’s a decision that the Dallas Mavericks may have to make this season.
This team could be a serious title contender with a third star. With that said, they shouldn’t add just any star player. With Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving on the roster, the Mavericks should be looking at a star frontcourt player. How about Brandon Ingram of the Dallas Mavericks?

Why The New Orleans Pelicans Do The Deal
The Mavericks are a bit light on draft capital. That’s why the Pelicans are getting two exciting young players here. Hardy has real star upside, and Green should be a useful utility player in the league for a while. If the Pelicans are considering a big trade, they should be interested in either.
That said, landing two pick swaps from the Mavericks also has some value. Let’s be honest: Kyrie Irving is not the most reliable superstar in the NBA. The Mavericks could win a championship following this deal, but they could also implode. These are volatile assets, but they could be extremely valuable ones.

Otherwise, the Pelicans are receiving an unprotected first as well. They may find uses for Hardaway Jr. and Holmes, too. For what it’s worth, they seem interested in landing a defensive big – Holmes would be an upgrade over Jonas Valanciunas. Should the Mavericks send him to New Orleans?
Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
Absolutely. If this deal is on the table, the Mavericks shouldn’t hesitate to make it. This team may have a star duo, but they need to improve the rest of their roster. How should they go about doing that?
It’s hard to say. Some will suggest that Dallas should opt to surround Doncic and Irving with depth. There’s some merit in that argument. On the other hand, adding a shot-creating wing could make them unguardable. Here, the Mavericks are prioritizing their top-end talent.
