BMW Group has become the latest automaker to announce their adoption of Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug for future BEVs in the US and Canada.
All three BMW Group brands, which include MINI, BMW, and Rolls-Royce, will adopt the NACS and move away from the current Combined Charging System (CCS) standard beginning in 2025.
BMW Group currently offers six fully electric vehicles, with more on the way including the 2024 BMW i5, 2024 BMW i7, and 2024 MINI Countryman EV. This announcement will give BMW Group vehicle drivers access to Tesla’s coveted Supercharger stations in the US and Canada starting in early 2025. Drivers will be able to access Supercharger availability and pay for their charging sessions through their respective brand’s app on their smartphone.
This announcement is independent of BMW North America’s previous announcement that it will team with six other automakers to build over 30,000 new high-powered chargers in North America.
BMW joins an already extensive list of companies announcing their switch to NACS, including Ford, General Motors, Fisker, Genesis, Hyundai, Kia, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar, Nissan, Infiniti, Honda, Acura and Mercedes-Benz.
