Tata recently thoroughly updated the Nexon in the Indian market. The new Nexon, even though looks very different from the previous version, it shares the same platform, which received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP. Here is the first accident of the updated Tata Nexon with MG Astor.
This low-impact crash between the Tata Nexon and MG Astor happened inside a society. In the CCTV, we can see that the Tata Nexon stopped after taking a blind turn after spotting a parking space. The MG Astor, which was at a high speed and possibly the driver was distracted, could not stop the vehicle in time. The Astor crashed into the Nexon’s rear end.

The crash caused damages to both the vehicles. The front fender of MG Astor got a dent while the tailgate and the bumper of the Nexon also got damages. Needless to say, the passengers of both the vehicles came out safely without any problem or injuries.
Only Nexon is tested by Global NCAP
While the MG Astor is loaded with safety features, it has not been tested by Global NCAP or other safety rating agencies. The car comes with a slew of safety features like six airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, ESP, traction control system, hill start assist, hill descent control, rear disc brakes and more. MG offers the MG Shield with a 3-year unlimited warranty, 3-year roadside assistance and 3 years of labour-free service charges. There is an option to increase the shield to five years at a nominal payment too.
In 2016, the Tata Nexon achieved a commendable four-star rating in its initial crash test. However, following some modifications and a retest, this mid-size SUV successfully attained a perfect five-star rating, making it the first car in India to achieve such a distinction. The Nexon received an impressive score of 16.06 out of 17, the highest ever achieved by any car manufactured in India. This additional score elevated Nexon’s previous four-star rating to a five-star rating, as determined by the same testing agency.
It’s important to note that the Tata Nexon’s body shell, platform, and structure remained unchanged since the tests conducted in August 2018. The number of standard dual front airbags in the Nexon also remained the same. The vehicle’s improved score is solely due to the inclusion of the full-channel version of ABS as a standard feature, along with the driver and passenger seatbelt reminder system.
Tata Motors has gained recognition for its exceptional build quality, which is reflected in the Global NCAP results. Tata has expressed its commitment to target a minimum of a 4-star rating and strive for a 5-star rating for all its future vehicles. Recently, the facelift Tata Safari and Harrier became the latest five-star rated SUVs from the brand in India.
