Mercedes took the wraps off the new and stretched E-Class L in China, half a year after the debut of the standard W214. The long wheelbase version of the executive sedan makes for a cheaper alternative to the larger S-Class flagship, offering plenty of space, tech, and comfort for the rear passengers.
Visually, the E-Class L is distinguished by the longer rear doors, the thicker C-pillars and rear quarter glass, and the special emblem on the D-pillars, making it look more like a Maybach. The rest of the design is carried over from the regular E-Class alongside the classic star emblem on the grille, LED taillights, and puddle lights. Naturally, the AMG Line features different wheels, sportier bumpers, and a model-specific illuminated grille differentiating from the lesser trims with the traditional hood ornament.

The Chinese-spec Mercedes-Benz E-Class L measures 5,092 mm long (200.4 inches), 143 mm (5.6 inches) more than the regular E-Class. 5.2 of the extra inches go to the stretched 3,094 mm (121.8 inches) wheelbase.
Moving inside, the dashboard is carried over from the E-Class, including the available hyperscreen comprising a trio of large displays, albeit with region-specific graphics and applications. The rear passengers benefit from increased knee room, reclining seatbacks, and electrically adjustable leg rests.
Extra amenities include the neck-heating function on the rear headrests, the dual-phone wireless charging pad integrated into the armrest, and a high-end Burmester sound system with seat vibration effects. There is also a special button for electrically folding the front passenger seat so you can stretch your legs if you are being chauffeured. The door cards look different in the long-wheelbase E-Class, with the ambient lighting strips going upwards and behind the rear headrests for a more premium ambiance. However, the model doesn’t come with extra displays for those sitting at the back.
In China, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class L will be reportedly offered with a 4-cylinder powertrain in two configurations – the E270L with 201 hp (150kW / 204 PS) and the more potent E300L with 255 hp (190kW / 258 PS). Furthermore, the lineup is expected to expand with more options in the future. The E-Class L comes fitted with air suspension and rear-wheel steering.
Sales of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class L will commence in China in the coming months. As reported by Autocar India, the model will also be available in the Indian market in the second half of 2024. This is the fourth bodystyle version of the new E-Class, following the regular sedan, the more practical Estate, and the adventurous All-Terrain wagon with crossover styling cues.
