Premier League recap: What we learned from match day 9

From comeback drama to straight blowouts, let’s recap the highlights from the Premier League this past weekend, match day 9.

Arsenal grateful to come back against Chelsea

Chelsea staved off a late Arsenal surge to hang on to the draw in what was a mesmerizing game at Stamford Bridge.

The much-maligned Mkyhailo Mudryk, who rejected an Arsenal transfer for West London last winter, scored a cheeky chip wonder goal. But Mikel Arteta will tell you that goalkeeper David Raya should have done a lot better. “It was something in the middle, between a cross and a shot,” said Mudryk on his fortuitous goal. Mudryk said the Chelsea goalkeeper coach advised him on Raya’s shaky off-the-line positioning.

Do you think Arteta should start Aaron Ramsdale vs Sevilla and Sheffield United?

All in all, Chelsea seems to be progressing under Pochettino, while the Gunners showed some resiliency. The two clubs will need consistency to finish in the top four in the world’s most difficult league.

Manchester United edges Sheffield United

It was an emotional day for Manchester United fans as it was announced club legend Sir Bobby Charlton passed away on Saturday morning. But his spirit was in the air as Diogo Dalot scored a superb game-winner in the 76th to give the Red Devils the 2-1 victory.

“It’s a great privilege when you look at Sir Bobby [Charlton’s] goals that one of my goals is compared to his,” said Dalot after the much.

“I was lucky enough to know him. He was always there after the games. He represented the level of the club. If legends like him won the biggest titles, we have to follow that.”

The vital strike at Bramall Lane takes a little pressure off Erik ten Haag despite Sheffield outplaying the Red Devils.

Manchester City is back to winning ways

We knew Manchester City wouldn’t take long to turn the ship around. No one expects Pep and Co to lose three in a row, it would’ve been City’s first since 2016.

Alvarez and Haaland scored two early goals and put in a solid shift to help City retain the lead. The goals also helped City regain the Premier League table on goal difference. However, Tottenham could leapfrog City on Monday night in a win over Fulham.

Pep hopes City can continue their stellar play with Manchester United next weekend at Old Trafford. All focus will be on Erik ten Haag, who’s still in the hot seat despite his team’s win over the weekend.
