Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens entered Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions with a 4-2 record and a first place standing in the AFC North. They were faced with one of their biggest tests so far on the young season by playing against an upstart Lions team, who was looking to stake their place near the top of the NFL standings. But thanks to an outstanding statistical day from Jackson, the Ravens were able to come out victorious.

The game was never close. Baltimore scored on the opening possession of the game, a 7-yard touchdown run by Jackson. The Ravens would then score a touchdown on each of their next three possessions, and the margin was stretched to a 28-0 lead with 8 minutes left in the second quarter.
It was a well-rounded victory. The defense gave up just 6 points on the day, a touchdown that came at the start of the 4th quarter. They had 503 yards of total offense in the game, and Jackson was a big part of their production. He completed 21 of his 27 passes on the day, which totaled 357 yards, and he threw 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He had a passer rating of 155.8.
The Ravens pushed their record to 5-2 with the win, and improved their odds of winning the Super Bowl, going from +1600 to +1200 overnight. But there was an even bigger Ravens-related jump at the sportsbooks, as Jackson has now entered the conversation for the NFL MVP award.

Jackson had played well enough through the first six weeks to keep his name in the top-10 for MVP consideration. He was putting up good enough numbers as a dual threat, though his passing statistics were not on par with some of the other high-volume producing QBs around the league.
But his big statistical day in Week 7 has helped his cause tremendously. In just one week, Jackson’s NFL MVP designation has gone from +1400 all the way down to +500, via BetOnline. It is an impressive jump, and puts him even with Tua Tagovailoa, who began the week as the favorite.
Patrick Mahomes is now back in the driver’s seat where he began the season, and has the shortest odds that any player has had so far this season at +250.
