Dolce & Gabbana Devotion Eau de Parfum fresh, fruity scents with notes of candied citrus, orange blossom, and vanilla. At the moment vanillas are heavily trending in the fragrance world and I was terribly excited to see D&G doing one. I hesitate to call this a gourmand but after trying it I do want to lean in that direction. It is fresh, it is sweet, it is fruity, but also, it has a cake or cookie-like dry down that does make me think of yummy lemon cake or cookies.
I only purchased this in a Travel Spray but I’ll be purchasing a full-size bottle during the Sephora Holiday Sales Event this week. After seeing the notes I typically would consider this a good blind buy fragrance but I hesitated for two reasons. One of those reasons is people kept mentioning a lavender note and I immediately backed off. I dislike the smell of lavender and the idea of it permeating the delicious orange blossom, citrus, and vanilla notes just turned me off. And secondly and most importantly was the overhype. I am noticing more and more fragrance Tiktokers and influencers overhype fragrances in a really crazy you need this way. They really induce a fever to purchase every single new perfume that launched and I am very guilty of being caught up in what they push only to be disappointed. Everything smells amazing, everything is a must buy, and I can easily be swayed when it comes to fragrances. I really had to stop and re-evaluate who I trust for fragrance reviews lately because a lot of it straight up hype. When this hit the shelves there was immediate “YOU NEED THIS!” vibes going on and I took a step back and decided to spend $34 on a travel spray versus $118-$148 on a larger bottle I might hate! I think it can be challenging to create a fragrance that’s both fresh, fruity, citrus-like, and gourmand but Dolce & Gabbana Devotion nails it and dare I say they do in a way that I wish Arko Bake did. Arko Bake is described as a brilliant lemony cake but I get more of a lemon dishwasher liquid-like scent from it and none of the cake and cookies and gourmand notes everyone else seems to get from it. I think Devotion is exactly what I wanted Bake to be but wasn’t.
I smell straight up vanilla and lemon as soon as I mist this on. The top note immediately comes flying through with a blast of zesty, tart sweetened lemon followed immediately by vanilla which twists around the lemon removing the zest and creating a warmth and coziness which gives off lemon sponge cake vibes or warm lemony cookies out of the oven. This actually has a panacotta and rum note as well which I’m convinced makes the vanilla smell more like a bourbon vanilla.
It’s fun, it’s a bit sexy, it’s sweet yet warm, and yes, I am going to stick with the gourmand title for this one! It smells deliciously lemon-y cake-like in all the best possible ways without being overly sweet or headache inducing.
Dolce & Gabbana Devotion Eau de Parfum is a win for me. I love this one and will happily be purchasing a larger bottle.
