Upon arriving at the parking lot where this scooter erupted in fire, the firefighters took control of the situation and extinguished the burning Ola Electric scooter. The good news was that nobody suffered any injuries during the fire. However, the scooter was severely burned and incurred heavy damage. At the moment, the exact reason for this fire has not been reported. It is believed that Ola Electric might launch an investigation into why this situation occurred in the first place.

Not the First Ola Electric on Fire

Kerala Ola Fire

Over the last year, electric scooters from many different automakers have caught fire. However, Ola Electric tops this list. Just a few days ago in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, another parked Ola Electric S1 Pro EV scooter randomly caught on fire. Just like the scooter in Pune, the main reason behind the fire of this scooter has not been found yet. Last time it was reported that the company did start its investigation and was cooperating with the owner. It was added that the company promised to replace the scooter with a new one.

Ola Electric Founder Says Electric Vehicle Fires Will Happen

Back in June of this year, a Tata Nexon EV sub-compact SUV caught on fire. The video of it burning down went viral on the internet and while resharing the video on X, Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal made a comment. He stated, “EV fires will happen. Happens in all global products too. EV fires are much less frequent than ICE fires.” The quote from Bhavish came because he has come under the spotlight for many instances of Ola Electric scooters catching on fires.

Government’s Interference to Avoid Such Fire Incidents

Just a few months ago, the incidents of electric scooters catching on fire became so severe that the government had to initiate an investigation on these frequently occurring matters. The investigation was carried out by the Centre for Fire, Explosive, and Environment Safety, an entity under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It was reported that the DRDO found serious defects in the batteries, including designs of the battery packs and modules from some EV automakers.
