The VW Taigun, the Indian-made sibling of the T-Cross, just got a new special edition called GT Edge Trail. The SUV benefits from a number of visual upgrades to make it look more adventurous despite being an FWD-only affair.
Unlike its recently updated EU-spec counterpart, India’s VW Taigun hasn’t received a facelift so making special editions an easy way of sparking buyer’s interest in a very competitive segment.

The first thing you notice is the black and red decals on the rear portion of the profile, featuring Trail lettering on the rear fenders, accompanying the Trail Edge emblem on the tailgate. VW also added roof bars which are mounted on the standard roof rails for extra practicality points. Finally, the SUV rides on Black Belmont 17-inch alloy wheels, with a matching black roof that can be combined with Candy White, Reflex Silver, or Carbon Steel Grey exterior shades.
Interior upgrades are limited to the leatherette upholstery with Trail badges, puddle lights, stainless steel pedals, and a dashcam. As with the GT which serves as a base for the special mode, standard equipment includes a 10-inch infotainment, a rearview camera, and a wireless charging pad. However, as noted by Autocar India, the GT Edge Trail doesn’t get the digital instrument cluster, sunroof, ventilated seats, full LED headlights, and 6 airbags found in the higher-spec GT Plus trim.
Those features make the VW Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition a direct rival to the Hyundai Creta Adventure Edition which is also available in India.
The new special edition of the Taigun is exclusively available with the turbocharged 1.5-liter TSI four-cylinder petrol engine. The mill, which is used in countless VW Group products all over the world, produces 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. As mentioned previously, the Taigun is only offered in FWD forms.
The VW Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition is already available for sale in India priced at Rs 16.3 lakh ($19,588), which is about the same as the standard GT trim. Those who want something even better equipped can opt for the more expensive GT Plus or the sportier-looking GT Edge Limited Edition.
