Tata Motors has become synonymous with build quality among customers in India. Most of the vehicles sold by Tata Motors have received 5-star ratings in Global NCAP crash tests. Even in real-world accidents, Tata cars have demonstrated their build quality and saved many lives. We have featured such accidents in the past. Many of these accidents were caused by the driver’s carelessness. Car owners are often so impressed with the build quality that they end up buying another Tata product. Here, we have a video in which a driver took things to the next level and crashed a Nexon SUV into a train engine.
The video has been shared by Nikhil Rana on his YouTube channel. The images have been shared in a social media group. In the pictures, we can clearly see a Tata Nexon next to a train engine. Initially, it appears that the Tata Nexon had a very close call with the locomotive. The left side of the car looks almost undamaged, which gives us that impression. However, the exact location of the accident is not mentioned in the video. When we take a closer look at the car, we realize that the train did hit the Nexon and pushed the SUV forward too.

According to the video, the driver of the Tata Nexon was probably a bit too impatient and was trying to cross the railway track not from a dedicated level crossing area. He probably did not see the locomotive moving towards him. It is not known whether the driver was alone in the car or if there were other occupants as well. Whatever the reason, crossing a railway track in this manner was not the right thing to do.
The driver’s side of the Tata Nexon suffered major damage. The driver’s side door, rear door, and the window were all damaged. The front of the locomotive had actually damaged the window and was inside the cabin. It appears that the locomotive was not traveling at a high speed, and the locomotive pilot was able to bring the engine to a stop without causing any major damage.
This is not the first time we have come across an incident like this. If you check the internet, there are several videos available online where careless bikers can be seen risking their lives to cross a railway crossing when the gates are closed. In many cases, the train has damaged the vehicle beyond repair. Earlier this year, after the Odisha multiple train accident, there was an incident where a vigilant locomotive driver averted another major mishap. A tractor rammed into a railway crossing gate in Bokaro, Jharkhand when the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani was about to cross. The tractor was stuck between the gate and the railway track, and the locomotive pilot applied the brakes on time.
Returning to the Tata Nexon accident, it is not known whether any legal action has been initiated against the driver for their irresponsible behavior. The Nexon did absorb the impact reasonably well, and we hope all the occupants are safe. Driving a well-built car or SUV doesn’t mean you are invincible, and drivers should learn to be more patient on and off the road.
