I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence reveals that he regrets not using the ending from the original novel. Released in 2007, the post-apocalyptic thriller stars Will Smith as Robert Neville, the last human survivor in New York City following a plague that turns much of the world's population into vampire-like creatures he calls "Darkseekers". The movie, which is based on a 1954 novel by Richard Matheson, had an infamously divisive conclusion, and I Am Legend's alternate ending has widely been embraced as superior.
