Grattan Raceway, a historic racetrack located in Michigan, is now for sale. The road course is located in a scenic area in Kent County, approximately a 20-minute drive from Grand Rapids and 2.5 hours Northwest of Detroit.
Arguably considered one of West Michigan’s best kept secrets, the Grattan Raceway’s design was inspired by the legendary Monza circuit in Italy. Built by E.J. Faasen in the early-1960s, Fassen continued to help run the facility with his five sons until he passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017.
Today, the racetrack is still running strong. It’s currently active and has hosted countless club-level racing events, drivers’ schools, and testing sessions over the decades. Motorcycles and go-karts have also made white-knuckled rounds around the course. Oscar winning actor Paul Newman even came out to Grattan for sports car testing, as did American professional football running back Walter Payton.
The winding, picturesque road course is two miles long with several hills, which provides drivers with unique and challenging corners. A 3,200-foot straight, ten turns, and 40 feet of width makes the Grattan Raceway a go-to club racing track for those in the know, especially considering its recently refreshed pavement. The facility also is home to a 1.25-mile motocross track, garages, and restrooms.

The reason behind the owner’s wishing to sell the business is unknown and the asking price is not listed. No threats from property developers or municipal sound regulations are noted, which would make the purchase of the racing facility go smoothly, and in-turn, hopefully secure the preservation of its history for years to come.
