Customer deliveries of the insane Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 are well underway and one spanking new example has already hit the drag strip, launching down the quarter-mile with just 67 miles (108 km) under its belt.
The SRT Demon 170, many, if not all of which, were sold with staggering markups ranging from $100,000 to over $250,000 above the MSRP, represents the ultimate iteration of the current-generation Dodge Challenger.
It boasts a wild 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine pushing out 1,025 hp and 945 lb-ft (1,280 Nm) of torque when running on E85. Dodge asserts that it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a mere 1.66 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 8.91 seconds at a blistering 151.17 mph (243.28 km/h).

This particular example owned by Stephen Rippa of Ripatuned didn’t quite reach that quarter-mile claim but it wasn’t far off either, clocking in at its best time of 9.39 seconds at a top speed of 147.7 mph (237.7 km/h). Importantly, it set this time without launch control, as the system is disabled until the vehicle accumulates more than 500 miles (805 km).
Additionally, Dodge’s Transbrake 2.0 system is also restricted until the same mileage threshold is met. Once enabled, drivers can customize different launch-torque profiles and adjust power delivery to match specific track conditions.
The owner of the Challenger SRT Demon 170 notes that it experienced some traction issues off the line and is confident that it is actually producing more than the 1,025 hp at the crank that Dodge claims. Steven owns tuning shop Ripatuned and is already planning a special calibration for the car. Not only will the firm’s Stage 1 calibration look to extract some additional grunt from the engine but he believes the transmission can also be optimized to provide quicker shifts, allowing it to rocket off the line with even more ferocity.
Speaking to Hot Rod, Pipa stated, “Overall, Dodge completely knocked it out of the park with this final Hellcat model. The car is exactly what Mopar enthusiasts have been waiting for, and it’s definitely worth the long wait to get one.”
