More than 18,000 examples of the 2022 Ford F-150 in the U.S. will need to be brought back to dealerships because the parking lamps may flicker and while it may sound like a small issue, it has prompted the carmaker to issue a recall through the NHTSA.
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards mandate that new vehicles must have steady-burning parking lamps. However, some F-150 models have encountered compliance issues with this regulation due to a software problem with the LED Driver Module. This fault can result in the parking lamps flickering when the driver selects one of the following modes: ‘position lamp on,’ ‘headlamp on,’ or ‘automatic,’ which activates both the headlights and the parking lights.

Ford has traced the issue back to the fact that the LED Driver Module currently operates at 200Hz, making the parking lamp susceptible to flickering because of the insufficient capacitance on the capacitor.
This is not the first time Ford has issued a recall for this problem and some of the 18,527 examples involved in this recall were subject to the previous one but had an “incomplete remedy.” Impacted trucks were manufactured between March 11, 2022, and July 23, 2022.
Fortunately for Ford, the problem can be easily fixed by flashing the LED Driver Module with new software free of charge. Owners of those 2022 F-150 models being recalled will be alerted between January 14, 2024, and January 19, 2024.
This is not the only recent recall for the F-150. In July, the firm recalled 870,701 examples of the best-selling pickup truck because a wiring issue could cause the parking brake to turn on while the truck is driving.
