Photo Gallery: Big Horsepower and Insane Race Cars at the 2023 Performance Racing Industry Show

The Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show is home to many miles of isles stocked full of the latest performance parts and automotive innovations on display teamed with the race cars and burn out machines that depend on them. Almost every motorsport niche was represented, including drag-and-drive cars, dedicated drag racing cars, time-attack vehicles, dirt track racers, and builds made for burnouts. Giant turbos and shiny superchargers at every turn made it challenging to focus on just one build, so we decided to share six favorites followed by a photo gallery of some of the most high-performance race cars spotted on the 2023 PRI Show floor.

2012 Ford Mustang “Snot Rocket”

This 2012 Ford Mustang nicknamed “Snot Rocket” is owned by Brett LaSala of Real Street Performance and MSR Racing. Its twin-turbo 5.0L Coyote engine built by Fast Forward Race Engines certainly assisted in the car’s most recent race wins. LaSala piloted the built pony car to first place in the Modified Class and third place overall during the 2023 Sick Week drag-and-drive races. He also took first place in this year’s TX2K Street Car Elite drag race, first in the FL2K Extreme 28 competition, first in the World Cup Finals Warriors Vs. Tres Cuarto, and first the Modified Nationals Fast 4 Shootout and Extreme 28. It’s posted quickest quarter-mile time is 6.33-seconds at 224 mph, with the fastest eighth-mile pass at 4.09-seconds at 184 mph.

What you’re looking at here is the world’s fastest Integra, an AWD B-Series owned and driven by Myles Kerr (a.k.a. Gringotegra). The US-spec B18C1 came from the factory in the Acura Integra GS-R model with 170 horsepower and a mere 128 foot-pounds of torque, but this record-setting Integra’s B18C1 block is stuffed with high-performance parts and boosted with a massive Next Gen 8085 Precision turbo to push 1,500-horsepower and 950 foot-pounds of torque to the wheels. Currently, the Integra’s highest speed is 216.65 mph in a half-mile.

Built and owned by Carl Balzer, this twin-turbo BMW burnout machine is powered by a 7.0-liter 427 cubic-inch engine built by Texas Speed. Balzer built the BMW for drag racing, drifting, burnout competitions and daily driving. It hits up to 1,800-horsepower at 28-psi and can race down the quarter mile in 9.21-seconds with a top speed of 154-mph at 10-psi.

NHRA Pro Stock national event winner Rodger Brogdon has a new ride, and it made an appearance at the 2023 PRI Show. This fast wagon was built by Jerry Haas Race Cars to race in the B/Altered Automatic class. The grocery getter is powered by a 500 cubic-inch Pro Stock engine built by Chris McGaha and the gears shifted by a M&M transmission.

1969 Chevy Nova “Murder Nova”

As seen on Street Outlaws No Prep Kings Season 6, the famous 187 Customs “Murder Nova” recently underwent an engine swap to trade its Pro Line Racing 482 cubic-inch small-block and twin Pro-Mod 98mm Precision turbos for a Pro Line MH7 Hemi engine topped with a F4x-140 Procharger. The 187 Customs Chevy Nova was displayed with its front clip off for all to see. You can keep tabs on this wild build via YouTube.

1929 Ford Five-Window Truck

This Ford five-window truck, “Slew Foot,” was first built by Gary Slawson of Gary’s Mad Creations with his son in 2017. After it was sold in early-2018, the hot rod sat for nearly five years in Minnesota. Gary Slawson’s grandson, Skylar Helgeson of Helgeson Motorsports found the car in 2022 and bought it back to continue the build in Gary’s honor. The heavily-modified Ford pickup sits on a custom-built tube chassis and is powered by a 6.0-liter LS engine equipped with a Holley Terminator ECU, intake, and throttle body, plus a Nitrous Express Dual Stage kit, and custom headers and exhaust built by Stainless Headers.
