Similar to any electric device, the battery’s life deteriorates, and at some point, it will need replacement, which can be an expensive affair. Here’s a video where an Ather 450 electric scooter owner shares their experience with their three-year-old scooter, which has covered over 70,000 km. The rider performs a range and performance test.
The video was shared by Techiga on their YouTube channel. The rider also shared their experience with the three-year-old Ather 450 on Twitter. Tarun Mehta, Co-Founder and CEO of Ather Energy, even retweeted the post about this scooter. In the video, the rider takes their three-year-old Ather 450 scooter for a range test. Over the last three years, the owner has extensively used the scooter, and signs of wear and tear are visible, with some body panels loose and ORVMs missing. The scooter genuinely looks abused. The owner mentions that the scooter was used for field work and company purpose.
The scooter seems to have been involved in accidents, with visible signs of wear. Over the last three years, it has covered over 70,000 km. The owner wanted to test the scooter’s range after three years, so they fully charged the battery. At 100 percent battery, the scooter showed a range of 75 km in Eco mode. When switched to Ride mode, the range dropped to 65 km, and in Sport Mode, it was 55 km.
The rider reset the trip meter and began the ride, mainly sticking to Eco Mode while riding mostly inside the city without switching between modes. After about 14 km, reaching the first destination, they continued through busy roads of Bengaluru, riding over several flyovers, and the Ather performed well in these conditions.
Covering 33.5 km, the scooter had 65 percent battery left when they made a U-turn. Despite some rattling sounds due to loose body panels, the scooter showed no other signs of age. Riding continuously in Eco Mode, facing city traffic, the rider managed to cover 75 km with 19 percent battery remaining.

Though the scooter initially displayed a range of 75 km, after covering that distance, it showed 12 km range with 19 percent battery. The rider’s aim was to ride the scooter until the battery died, and they continued. Mentioning that the Ather 450 consistently offers more range than displayed, the scooter managed around 88.4 km with fully charged batteries. The rider noted that the scooter moved for over 1 km even after the battery percentage reached zero.
Impressed with the performance, the rider found the range and battery health to remain intact after three years and 70,000 km of use. Tarun Mehta shared the same video on his post, stating, “Ather 450 series should consistently see battery life of 100k+ kms. Early on, we were conservative due to limited field data and being the first to build lithium battery packs for 2Ws in India. But confidence continues to grow.
