Kia is set to introduce a new sub-4-metre compact SUV, codenamed the AY, and the latest reports confirm its official name as the Kia Clavis. Positioned strategically between the Sonet and Seltos models, the Clavis is expected to carve its niche with distinctive features, including rugged, boxy aesthetics, according to ACI.
The much-anticipated Kia Clavis is slated to make its global debut towards the end of 2024, with sales expected to commence in the early months of 2025. The SUV is poised to offer a diverse range of powertrain options, catering to various consumer preferences. Enthusiasts can anticipate internal combustion engine (ICE), electric vehicle (EV), and hybrid models, with the combustion engine variants hitting the market before their electric counterparts. The Clavis EV, built on the same platform as the ICE models, is part of Kia’s commitment to embracing electrification in its lineup. The electric variant of the Clavis will take aim at the Tata Nexon.EV, and the new Kia SUV is said to be benchmarked against India’s top selling electric SUV.
Kia India has ambitious plans for the production of the AY SUV, aiming to manufacture close to 1 lakh units annually. Approximately 80 percent of this production is earmarked for the internal combustion engine-equipped range, with a significant portion allocated for export purposes. This production strategy underscores Kia’s commitment to both the domestic and international markets.
Positioned strategically between the Sonet and Seltos models, the Kia Clavis aims to set itself apart as a lifestyle vehicle.
