I grew up in Northern California in a drag racing family. We went to Fremont Dragstrip quite often when I was growing up, and drag racing was what we did. We didn’t autocross, or road race, or do dirt track racing. But we knew people that did. So while I went to the dragstrip the most, we also went to San Jose Speedway to watch winged sprint cars and super modifieds. It was fun, it is fast, it is loud, and its dirty. What’s not to love? Many of the regulars at San Jose Speedway would go on to be stars in the World of Outlaws Series and so I was lucky growing up to see really good, clean, and fast sprint car racing.
So when I saw the preview for the videos below, I knew I needed to watch and boy am I glad I did. This is some of the most intent and fun and exciting sprint car racing you are ever going to see. We’re talking two or three lead changes in just one corner, bumping, wall taps, and so much more. But make no mistake, this was really clean really exciting racing and proves you don’t have to crash people to pass or to put on a good show for the fans. Which is exactly what Williamson, Sweet, and Abreu did for nearly 20 laps. This is epic racing.
