The government of India is pushing automobile manufacturers in the country to make safer cars. This pressure is also increasing as new customers are giving extreme importance to the safety rating of vehicles. In the last few years, a number of Indian cars have improved in terms of safety and have managed to score 4 and even 5 stars in the Global NCAP. So, if you’re on the lookout for a vehicle in the budget of under 10 lakh that offers 4 and 5-star safety ratings with a very stable body structure, well, then this list is exactly what you need.
Tata Tiago and Tiago EV
The most affordable hatchback offering from Tata Motors, the Tiago has scored a respectable 4-star rating in the Global NCAP. Overall, the Tiago scored a total of 12.52 out of a maximum 17, resulting in a 4-star safety rating for adult occupants. It also received 34.15 points out of a maximum 49, helping it achieve a 4-star safety rating for child occupants.
Meanwhile, the electric iteration of it – the Tiago EV also managed to score a 4-star safety rating in the Global NCAP. In the adult occupant protection (AOP) test, the Tiago EV managed to score 16.4 out of 17. On the other hand, in the child occupant protection (COP) test, it scored a total of 42 out of 49 points. The Tiago currently starts with a price of Rs 5.6 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.2 lakh. Additionally, the Tiago EV starts at Rs 8.69 lakh and goes up to Rs 12.04 lakh.
Tata Tigor and Tigor EV
The second spot on this list is occupied by Tiago’s sedan sibling, the Tigor and Tigor EV. The Tigor in the Global NCAP has managed to score 12.52 out of a maximum 17, earning it a 4-star safety rating for adult occupants. Meanwhile, for child occupant safety, it has scored 34.15 points out of a maximum score of 49. Overall, the car has managed to score a decent 4-star safety rating. The Tigor EV has also managed to score the same 4 stars in the GNCAP. Currently, the Tigor is priced in the range of Rs 6.3 lakh to Rs 8.95 lakh. On the other hand, the Tigor EV starts at Rs 12.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 13.75.
Tata Punch
The country’s most micro-SUV, Tata Punch, has managed to score a perfect 5-star safety rating from the Global NCAP. It scored a near-perfect 16.49 out of 17 in adult occupants protection. It also managed to score 40.89 out of 49 in child occupants protection, giving it an overall score of 5 stars in the global NCAP safety rating. Currently, the Tata Punch starts at Rs 6 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.10 lakh.
Tata Altroz
Built on the ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) Architecture, the Altroz has also managed to score a full 5 stars in the Global NCAP crash tests. It scored 16.13 out of 17 points in adult occupants protection and also received praises for a stable body shell and footwell area. In the child occupants protection test, it scored 29 out of 49 points. At the moment, this premium hatchback starts at Rs 6.60 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.74 lakh.
Tata Nexon
The last under Rs 10 lakh Tata car in this list is the sub-compact SUV Nexon. In the global NCAP crash tests, the Nexon managed to score a perfect 5-star safety rating. The Nexon scored 16.06 out of 17 in adult occupants protection and 25 out of 49 in child occupants protection. Currently, the Nexon starts at Rs 8.10 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.50 lakh.
Mahindra XUV300
Another sub-compact SUV on this list is the Mahindra XUV300, which has also managed to score a perfect five-star safety rating from Global NCAP. It scored 16.42 out of 17 in adult occupants protection and 37.44 in the child occupants protection tests. The XUV300 in terms of safety features comes equipped with features like 7 airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, hill start assist, and disc brakes on all four wheels. The Mahindra XUV300 starts at Rs 7.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.76 lakh.
Renault Triber
The only seven-seater MPV in this list, the Renault Triber, has also managed to score a decent 11.62 out of 17 points in the adult occupants protection tests. Meanwhile, in the child occupants protection tests, it scored 27 out of a possible 49 points, giving it a Global NCAP safety rating of 4 stars. Currently, the Renault Triber starts at Rs 6.34 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.98 lakh.
Renault Kiger
The next vehicle on this list is Triber’s sibling – the Kiger. This sub-compact SUV starts at Rs 6.5 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.23 lakh. As for the score in the Global NCAP, it managed to get a respectable 4-star safety rating. The Kiger received 12.34 out of 17 points in the adult occupants protection tests. Meanwhile, it received 21.05 out of 49 points in the child occupants protection tests.
Nissan Magnite
The Nissan Magnite is also a sub-compact SUV that shares its underpinnings with the Renault Kiger. So, in a similar fashion, it managed to score a decent 4-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash tests. In the adult occupants protection tests, it scored 11.85 out of 17. Meanwhile, in the child occupants protection tests, it scored 24.88. Currently, the Nissan Magnite starts at Rs 6 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.86 lakh.
Honda Amaze
The last car on this list is the sub-compact sedan Honda Amaze. This sedan starts at Rs 7.13 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.89 lakh. The Amaze managed to score 14.08 out of 17 in the adult occupants protection tests. Meanwhile, in the child occupant protection, it received a score of 8.16 out of 49. Overall, it managed to score a total of 4 stars in the Global NCAP crash tests.
