The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is the latest offering from the country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited. It has become popular for its off-roading capabilities and nimble driving characteristics. However, what a lot of people don’t like about this SUV is that it is a bit too small and does not have a massive road presence. Recently, highlighting this fact, a video was shared online where a Maruti Suzuki Ignis hatchback owner compared the Jimny with his Ignis by parking them right next to each other.
The video showing the size difference between the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Ignis has been shared by Ashish Shishodia on their channel. This short one-minute video starts off with the presenter mentioning that he intends to show the size difference between his hatchback and the Jimny. He states that the Jimny is an off-road vehicle with a capable 4X4 system, and it makes no sense to compare them. However, he just wants to highlight the difference in size. He adds that he has added aftermarket alloy wheels and tires which have increased the size of his hatchback.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs Ignis
From what we can see, the Ignis, although a small hatchback, still does not look as small when parked next to a Jimny. The overall difference is very small, and this highlights the fact that the Jimny is indeed a very small SUV from the outside. In terms of dimensions, the Jimny measures 3,985mm, meanwhile the Ignis measures 3,700mm, there is only a slight difference of 285mm.
Apart from this, Jimny has a decent difference in height as Ignis measures 1,595mm while the Jimny measures 1,720mm. Coming to the wheelbase, the Jimny offers a 2,590mm wheelbase while the Ignis offers 2,435mm. It has to be noted that the Ignis, however, is wider than the Jimny as it measures 1,690mm and the Jimny measures in at 1,645mm.
Powertrain differences
Coming to the powertrain differences, the Jimny is offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated K15B engine. This motor makes a maximum power of 103 bhp and 134 Nm of torque. However, the Ignis, on the other hand, is powered by a smaller 1.2-litre VVT engine that makes around 82 bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque.
Jimny prices have increased again
Maruti Suzuki in the month of December 2023 started offering massive discounts on the Jimny. During this period, the base Zeta variant was offered with a Rs 2 lakh discount, meanwhile the Alpha variant was offered with a Rs 1 lakh discount. In addition, Maruti Suzuki was also offering a “Thunder Edition” kit for free to all the customers of Jimny. This limited edition included a few add-on accessories for the exterior and interior. However, the company has now announced that these offers have been discontinued and the prices of the Jimny have increased.
According to the company, these heavy discounts were being offered to push out the 2023 manufactured cars. Additionally, these discounts were also offered as the sales performance of Jimny in November 2023 was not as expected by the company. So, in their attempt to push the sales figures and clear the old inventory, the company offered these massive discounts. A lot of Jimny owners at the time of the announcement of discounts were unhappy. Currently, the Jimny starts at Rs 12.74 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.05 lakh.
