Arturs Zagars had a breakout performance at the FIBA World Cup 2023, leading Latvia to the quarterfinals. He averaged 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 40.5% from three-point range.
Zagars began his professional basketball career in 2017 with the Club Joventut Badalona young team in Spain. He quickly advanced through the ranks and was assigned to Kalev/Cramo of the Estonian League in 2019. In Estonia, the Zagars averaged 12.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.
Zagars is a versatile player who can play point guard as well as shooting guard. He is an excellent playmaker and scorer, as well as a solid defender. He is a team player who is always willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win.
Zagars played an important role in Latvia’s upset victory over Germany in the Round of 16. He added 24 points, including four three-pointers, and eight assists.
Latvia met the United States in the quarterfinals. Despite a difficult shooting night, Zagars finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Latvia eventually lost the game, but Zagars’ effort was a big reason why they got this far.
Arturs Zagars is an outstanding point guard who is ready to make his NBA debut. He is an above-average athlete who is a solid passer and has good court vision. For his size, he is also a good defender and rebounder. Zagars is predicted to have a breakout season in 2023 and is one of the LKL’s players to watch.
