At least one pair of Tesla Cybertruck owners have piloted their truck over 10,000 miles (about 16,000 km) since taking delivery, and during their journey, they’ve discovered several real-world quirks of the Cybertruck. They’ve also revealed their range, charging experience, and more.
For reference, this is an AWD Cybertruck that reportedly arrived at its owner’s door with 72 miles (116 km) on the odometer. According to Tesla, this version is supposed to get up to 340 miles (547 km) of range with all-season tires. As of January 15th, it evidently has over 10,000 miles, and here are some of the findings.
After logging approximately 1,700 miles (2,735 km) on all-terrain tires with aero covers, the Cybertruck got all-season tires with aero covers, and there was no noticeable watt-hour per mile difference. With “mostly fairly aggressive driving,” 100% battery provided an average of 206 miles (331.52 kilometers) of range, and 80% offered only 164 miles (263.93 kilometers). That’s based on an energy usage rating of 599 wh/mile on average over those 10,000 miles (16,093.44 kilometers). On top of that, recharging wasn’t exactly a simple and quick process.

These owners found that charging at home with a Gen 3 Tesla wall connector took between 8 and 12 hours most days at 32 or 48 amps. V2 Supercharger stations were “very slow and could take up to 2 hours,” they say. V3 Superchargers were better but still required more than an hour to fill the Cybertruck up to 70% or better. That’s a long stop for a truck that needs to get refilled every 206 miles or so.

Furthermore, the owners raised concerns about road noise, the attention the Cybertruck draws, and the lack of a waterproof vault, despite the claim. However, it’s not all negative feedback. The owners mentioned their appreciation for the sound system, cooled seats, passenger visibility, and the vehicle’s speed. They also found the steer-by-wire system and handling to be positive aspects of the Cybertruck.
It’s worth noting that this is one anecdotal data point that may or may not be indicative of the rest of the Cybertruck production run. At the same time, it would be very strange for this example to be such an outlier in terms of performance that it doesn’t inform us about most of these trucks.
