After a harsh -37.2% fall in 2022, the Egyptian new light vehicle market posts another mediocre year in 2023 at a damning -50.8% year-on-year to just 85,852 units. This is the first time Egypt sales fall below the 100,000 annual sales mark in at least 20 years. This year Nissan (-43.3%) takes the top spot off Chevrolet (-71.3%) which sins to #4. Chery (-45.9%) climbs two spots on last year to reach an outstanding 2nd place overall above Toyota (-49.9%) also up two ranks to #3. MG (-49.9%) advances one spot to break into the Top 5, toppling Suzuki (-72.7%). Hyundai (-46.2%) and Kia (-41.3%) see their ranking unchanged on 2022 while Renault (-18.8%) breaks into the Top 10 at #9 and BYD (-25.6%) stays at #10. Mitsubishi (+4.3%), Geely (+21.1%), JMC (+78.4%) and Subaru (+316.3%) all defy the market with positive results.
Over in the models aisle, the Nissan Sunny previous generation (-32.1%) ends 9 consecutive years of domination by Chevrolet T-Series (-65.4%). The Sunny holds a stellar 13.3% share for the year. Once a best-seller, the Hyundai Accent (+259.4%) rallies back up a whopping 34 spots on 2022 to end the year at #3 with 5.1% share. The BYD F3 (-25.6%), the sole model from the Chinese brand, is up three ranks to #4 with the Chery Tiggo 7 (-27.4%) up 6 spots to round out the Top 5. Notice also the Kia Sportage (-18.7%) also up 6 to #6, the Renault Megane (-5.8%) up 9 to #9 and the MG ZS (-16.2%) up 6 to #11. For its part the MG RX5 (+291.5%) surges 55 ranks to #12.
