Volkswagen Group of America CEO Pablo Di Si recently used the Chicago Auto Show to reveal a VW truck is “not in the plans anymore” for the United States. However, that might not be the case for much longer.
According to WardsAuto, Volkswagen is considering an electric pickup based on Scout’s truck. While the model would sport a unique design, it would reportedly share major components – such as the chassis and powertrain – with Scout’s variant. In effect, it would be like how the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is related to the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV.
The truck is said to be in an “early stage of design development” and would be a crew cab pickup like its retro-inspired counterpart. The model is believed to be larger than the Rivian R1T and is rumored to have a “bold yet functional appearance with classical VW design elements.”

If everything pans out, Volkswagen’s truck would be built in South Carolina alongside the Scout pickup. It would compete with other electric trucks such as the Ram 1500 REV, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Tesla Cybertruck.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, the report also suggested Audi could get a version of Scout’s SUV. This is an interesting rumor as it could potentially give the brand something to counter the Mercedes G-Class lineup, which is set to grow in the future. Of course, only time will tell what happens.
