The Lakers are a storied organization with many NBA championship banners hanging from the rafters. They recently added to that in 2020, led by two players that can easily be regarded as top 10 in the league. LeBron James believes that his teammate Anthony Davis is the face of the Lakers franchise.
On media day, James had some strong praise for his teammate. He went as far as to say that Davis is the face of the franchise.
“He is the face [of the franchise],” James said of Davis. “You look at all these [retired] numbers that surround this facility, all the greats that have come here, and AD is one of them,” James said of Davis.
Davis is currently entering his fifth year as part of the Lakers. The eight-time All-Star signed an extension over the summer that will keep him with the team until at least 2028.

LeBron is one of the best players in NBA history. Therefore, a comment like that gives confidence to Davis and further solidifies their relationship. Davis will cement his legacy if he continues his stellar play with the Lakers. Although many might argue he has not accomplished much, it is hard to ignore his current resume.
A franchise with many notable names can expect Davis to be on the list. The likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson, to name a few. But going back even further to Jerry West, the association’s logo.

More recently, the duo of Shaq and the late great Kobe Bryant added to the many superstar players that have played for the team. Now, with the new look Lakers, LeBron and Davis can continue that success and hope for many more championships.
The face of the franchise, Davis, adds to the pressure to perform. However, Davis is still entering his prime if anyone can take on that challenge.
