If you’re left with your nose pressed against the window as Jaguar E-types and XK120s sell for six-figure prices, take heart. Even if your budget is less than a tenth of the $201,075 that a 1963 E-Type brought on the Hemmings Marketplace earlier this month, you can still enjoy owning one of these British legends. We’ve pulled together seven examples for your consideration, all priced at between $10,000 and $15,000, and all 25 years old or older. Which suits you best?
1962 Jaguar Mk 2, asking $15k

A true sports sedan, Jaguar’s Mk 2 was powered by a DOHC six-cylinder XK engine, just like the XK120, XK140, XK150, and E-Type sports cars. The Mk 2 came from the factory with a 220-hp, 3.8-liter version of the XK, coupled with a four-speed or, as in this case, a column-shifted automatic transmission. The seller discloses that the front seats could use reupholstering, but otherwise calls it “a good driver with great potential.”

1986 Jaguar XJ12 Vanden Plas, asking $13.5k

Jaguar stopped selling its V-12-powered sedan in the U.S. after the Series II XJ ended production in 1979, but continued exporting them to Canada in Series III form from 1980 through 1992. This example, located in Toronto, is a top-of-the-line Vanden Plas, one of just 2,553 produced, according to the enthusiast website jag-lovers.com. The seller says it’s had a bare-metal respray in Steel Blue Metallic, with everything but the windshield and door handles removed. With 84,500 miles on the odometer, this 5.3-liter Jag drives “smooth as silk,” the seller says.

1990 Jaguar XJ-S, asking $10.5k

The XJ-S had a tough assignment as the successor to the E-Type, but it’s increasingly recognized for its success as a GT for a new era. The coupe was powered by Jaguar’s creamy V-12 engine from its 1976 introduction all the way through to 1993, when the 4-liter straight-six also became available. This was the last year of production before a facelift modified the hallmark “flying buttress” roofline. An automatic transmission and power everything makes this 262-hp cat the ultimate British luxury cruiser. And with just 72,000 miles on the odometer, it appears to have lived a pampered life.

1999 Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas, asking $10.9k

Introduced in 1997, the XJ8 was a continuation of Jaguar’s XJ series of sedans, now powered by the DOHC AJ-V8 engine. As a U.S. model, this XJ8 has the 290-hp, 4-liter V-8, backed up by a five-speed automatic. Though it could be mistaken for black, the paint is a very dark green, available as a special-order color, the seller explains. As a Vanden Plas model, it combines all of the latest creature comforts with lashings of old-world leather and burled wood. Think of it as an XK8 with room for friends and family.

1998 Jaguar XK8, asking $10.5k

When the XK8 was launched, Jaguar fans rejoiced at the return of the kind of curvaceous styling that had made the E-Type one of the world’s most highly coveted sports cars. Beneath the long, front-hinged hood is a 4-liter, DOHC V-8 making 370 hp, and backed up by a five-speed automatic. This tidy example is finished in a color Jaguar called Meteorite Pearl Metallic, complemented by an off-white leather interior. Jaguar built more than 90,000 examples of the XK8 and its supercharged XKR variant over 10 years, with convertibles outnumbering coupes two to one. “Runs strong,” the seller says.

1978 Jaguar XJ6, asking $12,950

This Series II XJ6 has a secret: It’s a European-market car equipped with a four-speed manual with electric overdrive, a specification not offered in the American market. The leather interior is the original, according to the seller, who tells us that the fuel system is new and that the air conditioning blows cold. A series of photos shows that this car is not without its needs, but for the XJ lover who prefers to shift for themselves, it’s a rare find.

1984 Jaguar XJ6, asking $10,750

The third generation of the XJ6, known as the Series III, was introduced for the 1980 model year. This example has had just two owners, and has been in the possession of the seller for 30 years. “No snow, rarely wet, true collector quality, unrestored, cosmetically minty,” the description reads. The car is on the market only because the seller wishes to thin his collection. With 104,000 miles on the odometer, we suspect that the 4.2-liter straight-six is in good health.
